The kitchen required a lot of creative thinking. The entire kitchen was gutted with much of the exterior wall insulation replaced. The wall separating the living room and kitchen was blown out. The solid maple cabinets were salvaged from the local "reuse" store so making them fit the space was a puzzle in itself. The range and refrigerator were relocated to opposite sides of the kitchen. Laundry was relocated to an adjacent closet, the door of which was widened for easier access.
All work that you see, including drywall, electrical, plumbing, tile/grout, trim, custom shelving, etc. was done by me with support from my now wife, Bridget. The countertop fabrication and installation is the only part that was outsourced and we managed to use a partial slab from the local countertop supplier.
